FAQ on: STCW

Q:What is STCW?
A:
The Standards of Training, Certification & Watchkeeping. In 1978 the International Maritime Organization (IMO) held a convention to improve the worldwide standards for safety and training of professional mariners.
This convention established a code adopted by many nations.
Since 1978 the STCW Code has seen many revisions and updates; the latest one in effect being STCW 95.
The purpose of the Code was to establish certain minimum international training standards for professional mariners. The level of certification and training required is based upon the capacity you serve in and the type of vessel you work on.
Q:Where can I obtain a copy of the STCW Code ?
A:
The STCW Code is extremely large and covers many subjects.
